Truce Agreement Offers Comfort to the Gaza Strip, Yet Concerns Remain Over Future
During the early hours of Thursday, people witnessed minimal celebration throughout the Palestinian enclave. Reports of the imminent ceasefire had traveled swiftly across the devastated territory throughout the evening, marked by occasional shots fired into the sky as a form of jubilation, yet with the arrival of dawn the atmosphere turned to apprehensive waiting.
“Everyone is still afraid,” said a 26-year-old woman located in al-Mawasi, the densely populated and impoverished coastal belt where numerous families has sought shelter under temporary shelters along with synthetic huts.
“We are waiting for a public statement along with concrete assurances regarding access points, enabling sustenance supplies, and stopping the killing, destruction and population transfers.”
In the vicinity, a 64-year-old man named Abbas Hassouna noted that his relatives were “waiting for an official announcement and real guarantees for border access, bringing in food, and ceasing the slaughter, demolition and exile”.

A 47-year-old woman called Ola al-Nazli mentioned she discovered about the truce from her neighbours in the al-Mawasi zone. “I did not know regarding my reaction, if I should celebrate or sorrowful. We have experienced this repeatedly in the past, and on each occasion our hopes were dashed once more, so this time apprehension and wariness are stronger than ever,” Nazli revealed, who was compelled to evacuate her residence in Gaza City due to the latest military operations there.
“Everyone lives under canvas that fail to safeguard from chilly conditions or during shelling. Those who had money or work suffered complete loss. Consequently our relief is mixed with pain and fear. My sole wish that we may reside in safety, not hear the sound of bombs, avoiding displacement, and that border passages will be accessible quickly,” Nazli added.
