One teenage youth was found dead only a few days following being wrongly blamed of stealing the cremated remains of a dead baby during a burglary, an inquest has learned.

Tragic Discovery

The young boy's mother and father discovered his remains in his bedroom at his Connah's Quay home on 19 November 2021.

False Accusations Start

The inquest heard how his mother received a message on November 8th, 2021 via online platforms, from a individual inquiring if her son was her child. The message stated: "Inform him appreciation for burgling my flat."

In a testimony read to the court, the mother said the individual had been in the media, claiming her infant's ashes had been taken in a break-in - a allegation which was untrue.

Law Enforcement Investigation

An official inquiry from authorities later concluded the alleged break-in complainant had "lied to police" and "it now appears that said items was not taken in the beginning".

News coverage about the supposed taken ashes generated online responses, and although the teenager was not identified in the posts, his mother said people "knew it was him".

The "social media content were really distressing", she said.

Emotional Wellbeing Impact

She explained that her son had been diagnosed with moderate attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and as part of that condition, other individuals' opinions genuinely mattered to him.

"This must have hurt him deeply," she commented, "especially when this was untrue".

The teenager was detained at home, but nothing was found. He was transported to a police station and later released pending further inquiry.

Police said they would be in touch, the inquest learned, but had failed to reached out to the relatives by the time of his death.

Withdrawal and Anxiety

His parent said Kai "became isolated" after the detention and "repeatedly inquired me whether I had heard anything from the authorities", because his condition meant sometimes "a minute could seem like days".

When she spoke to him about the alleged burglary, she said her son told her he had gone into the residence because the woman who lived there had said he could utilize the toilet anytime he wanted, but refuted taking anything.

Online Harassment

In a combined testimony between her and her spouse, the mother said her son was being harassed online after the allegations.

The proceedings heard that a 19-year-old urged Kai to kill himself.

She had no worries on the evening before he passed away, explaining how she had listened to him "laughing and teasing".

She portrayed him as a "caring, affectionate" young man, and said her "relatives is completely devastated".

He had been "obviously hiding his concerns", she said, adding that he could not bear to have anyone "have negative thoughts of him".

School Reaction

The hearing received testimony from educational personnel at the local secondary school.

On 8 November, she "heard some boys talking that the student had been detained and that was the initial I heard".

"He told me... he'd done nothing wrong," she added.

After the discussion, the educator said she called the family's family telephone and provided a message saying she had communicated to the student about the allegations.

The proceedings heard his parents said they did not receive that communication.

Formal Conclusion

Lead coroner informed the inquest he would await documents regarding what improvements had been made to dealing with individuals with the condition, before deciding whether he should make a avoidance of subsequent fatalities report.

Providing a narrative finding, he stated: "Approximately 8 November 2021, unsubstantiated accusations were made against the teenager, a young individual.

"Likely untruths were subsequently exaggerated and exaggerated through the medium of online networks.

"During 11 November, he was interviewed by the police and after his questioning he was freed while investigations continued."

The coroner concluded: "Exists no evidence that the acts or omissions of any agency caused or added to his death and although it was the result of a self-inflicted act it is impossible to determine his purpose."
